I enjoy playing CV, and am pretty good at it. If you want to give CV players a whole bunch of extra influence, though, then go right ahead. Strong fighters only help the team with the better carrier. For every game fighters keep those pesky airplanes away from you, there would be a game where your team is getting hit by aircraft as much or more than they do now, and you're basically fighting an 11 v 12. If the better carrier is on the enemy team, then you're screwed- they will have free reign to strike (since air superiority means they're neutralizing your carrier's fighters) and we're back to AA being the only defense.Īdding strong fighter gameplay back in (as in a carrier can counter the other carrier) just means ONE team gets to more or less ignore planes, but the other team has to deal with aircraft as much (or more) than they do now.

If the better carrier is on your team, then bully for you- your carrier can protect you from aircraft, and support you with damage. This means eliminating their fighter cover, too. The better carrier player will outplay their counterpart, and eliminate their contribution. Strike only carriers without counter (AA can not counter a carrier due to its limited range) are a recipe for surface warship frustration. So now, the carrier has free reign to endlessly attack the surface ships.thereby making the game unfun for the majority of players.
